Proclaimed and Received—The Gospel and Faith

First Corinthians 15:1-4, 12 and 14 say, “(1) Now I make known to you, brothers, the gospel which I announced to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, (2) through which also you are being saved, if you hold fast the word which I announced to you as the gospel, unless you have believed in vain. (3) For I delivered to you, first of all, that which also I received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; (4) and that He was buried, and that He has been raised on the third day according to the Scriptures;….(12) But if Christ is proclaimed that He has been raised from the dead, how is it that some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?….(14) And if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is vain; your faith is vain also” (emphasis added).

“[In these verses] Paul refers to the apostles’ preaching that Christ had been raised from among the dead. This indicates clearly that the apostles preached the resurrection of Christ” (Witness Lee, Corinthians, 594). These verses also show us that the believers received the truth of Christ’s resurrection as an item of the faith. In addition, the resurrected Christ empowered His believers to proclaim and testify of His resurrection. As a result of their preaching in resurrection, those who believed into the resurrected Christ received salvation.
