Proclaimed and Received—The Gospel and Faith

Received as an Item of the Faith

The believers faith is based on Christ’s resurrection (Witness Lee, Seven, 26). Romans 10:8-9 makes this clear:

(8) But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart,” that is the word of faith which we proclaim, (9) that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

By confessing that Jesus is Lord and by believing in His resurrection, we receive salvation; that is, we receive the resurrected Christ, who alone can save man

Christ’s resurrection is such a crucial component of the faith because it proves that God has accepted His death as payment for man’s sins and, based on this full payment, has justified man. Romans 4:22-25 says,

(22) Therefore also it [Abraham’s faith] was accounted to him as righteousness. (23) Now it was not written for his sake only that it was accounted to him, (24) but for ours also to whom it is to be accounted, who believe on Him who has raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, (25) who was delivered for our offenses and was raised for our justification.

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

The faith that is accounted to us as righteousness is our act of believing in God, who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead (Acts 13:37-39). Thus, “His resurrection proves that God’s requirements were satisfied by His death for us, that we are justified by God because of His death, and that in Him, the resurrected One, we are accepted before God” (Witness Lee, Recovery Version, Romans 4:25, note 1).

The truth revealed in Romans 4:25 and 10:8-9 regarding receiving salvation through faith in Christ’s resurrection is illustrated in the diagram below.
